If time does not cure a cold, there is a risk that there will be purulent sinusitis. This is an inflammation affecting the epididymis. It develops against the background of infection. What is purulent sinusitis, how to treat it, what complications can be and how to prevent the disease – read in our material.

Purulent sinusitis: what is it?

Many people who become ill with this disease ask themselves the question: “What is sinusitis?”. Purulent or allergic sinusitis is a common problem today. It is also called rhinosinusitis. The disease is an inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, which occurs due to the addition of a bacterial infection.

Experts divide this ailment into four groups. It depends on which sinuses affected the disease:

  • If it appears in the upper paths, then the patient has sinusitis (maxillary sinusitis);
  • If it affects the frontal – ethmoiditis;
  • If there was inflammation of the cells of the sphenoid bone – sphenoid.

Causes and signs of sinusitis in adults

Sinusitis is often not the primary disease, but a side effect of the common cold and the appearance of infection in the airways.

Purulent sinusitis symptoms and treatment

Improper sinus headache treatment can lead to a worsening of the situation, so doctors do not recommend self-treatment. But in order to diagnose sinusitis, one should pay attention to the main symptoms of the disease.

Symptoms of sinusitis:

  1. Mucous membrane inflamed;
  2. Lays paranasal sinuses;
  3. The presence of purulent discharge from the nose;
  4. The tissues of the nose swell strongly;
  5. Nose swells up;
  6. Constant headache, especially if you tilt your head;
  7. If you press on the nose, then there is a sharp pain;
  8. Sense of smell is reduced;
  9. Nose is almost impossible to breathe.

Chronic sinusitis in children

In children, this disease may be due to measles. Children sinusitis often becomes chronic. Doctors distinguish three age groups of children for which certain symptoms of the disease are inherent:

  • Up to 3 years;
  • From 4 to 7 years;
  • From 8 to 15 years

Sinusitis in a child of the first group often affects the cells of the ethmoid maze. The difficulty of treatment lies in the fact that a three-year-old child is unable to put into words all the symptoms that he feels. As a rule, sinusitis appears after SARS, as well as adenoid.

How is sinusitis treated?

Treatment of symptoms of sinusitis includes the following procedures:

The doctor prescribes drugs that constrict blood vessels. It is important to know that they cannot be taken for more than one week. Otherwise, mucosal atrophy may occur.

If a fungus appears in the nose, then special anti-fungal medications are used in their treatment.

The patient should use intranasal drops or spray, and in the case of purulent sunisita, a course of antibiotics should be drunk. But before the doctor prescribes a certain antibiotic, you need to pass the crop on the microflora. This will help determine which type of medication the body is sensitive to.

Also in medical offices often carry out the washing of the nose with the help of special equipment. At home, it is possible to make a syringe, but the procedure can cause discomfort.

In the hospital, there is a special device that allows you to avoid them. A special syringe is inserted into one nostril and a pump that extracts pus into the other.
